The BonHomme Richard wooden
model tall sailing ship is museum
quality built and was handcrafted by
some of the world's finest craftsmen.
On Feb. 4, 1779, The continental
Congress placed a newly founded
small navy under control of Captain
John Paul Jones. The 33 year old
commander quickly refitted the Duc
De Duras, a French donation to
increase the American war effort
during the English war, to 20 guns a
side. The newly armed ship was
renamed BonHomme Richard. Jones
model tall sailing ship is museum

He aptly chose the pen name of Benjamin Franklin, the current Ambassador to France, and the
author of “Poor Richard’s Almanak.” This journal urged early 18th century men to seek out public
roles to seek their destinies. This journal pushed many men to gain the will that resulted in the
American Revolution.
